Discuss two of the literary texts (i.e., not Du Bois) that we have read in Weeks 7 through 14. Ifyouwereaconversationstarterinweeks7-14,youcannotwriteaboutthe same text on which you presented. Choose two different texts.
Engage with relevant themes and concepts from the lectures and tutorial discussions, such as the tragic mulatto, passing, miscegenation, double consciousness, racial melancholia, the one-drop rule, and so on. This means you can use Du Bois as a secondary source in addition to your two literary texts.
Cite your sources by employing either Harvard, MLA, Chicago, or APA documentation style.
(a) You are not required to conduct additional research, but you may do so if you feel it is necessary to develop and support your argument. A number of optional readings are available on vUWS.
(b) If you quote from a lecture verbatim or paraphrase substantial passages from a lecture, then you must cite it.
Organize the analysis around a central argument or “thesis” and provide textual evidence to support its claims.
Employ an appropriate writing style with minimal spelling, grammatical, or other errors.
Keep direct quotation of the texts in each answer to approximately 15% (112 words per essay).
